Ode to the 40th

We celebrated my parents 40th anniversary this past weekend at the Wilderness Waterpark Resort in Wisconsin Dells.  A vacation celebration that my parents have had planned for over a year using some of the inheritance from our Grandmother.  To say we had a blast was an understatement.  It couldn't have turned out more perfect if we had planned it.  I'm sure my Grandma was so happy watching us all have so much fun together.

We got there Friday around noon and hopped right into the first waterpark while we waited for our condo to be ready.  My parents had rented a four bedroom frontier condo that was huge and allowed for us all to have our own private rooms.  What was also great was that the condo had a full kitchen so we were able to eat snacks and dinner Friday night just at the condo to save time and money having to go out for dinner.

We spent Saturday at all three waterparks and the weather held up just till about 3:00ish and by then we headed into the indoor waterpark and rode in the wave pool for awhile.  Probably my favorite part of the waterparks was the wave pool.  Happy hour was next which continued back at the condo while we got ready for dinner.  Lots of pictures also ensued.

Dinner was the most memorable as we ended up in a private room that we dubbed the "Trump Board Room".  We ate at the Fields Steak House within the resort.  Our group mostly ordered the filets and the seafood special of ahi tuna, grouper and salmon, each served with its own sauce.  Dinners also came with salad and a potato which is sometimes rare at steakhouses.  I had a spinach salad with bacon dressing that I would like to recreate.

Prior to dinner we toasted to our parents and then each went around the table to say one thing that we loved about our spouse and our marriage.  Very heartfelt and memorable...some tears, high-fives and a lot of smiles.

They had a piano player in the lounge with a beautiful voice and during a break to the bathroom, I had stopped there with Liam and stood dancing with him while she played and sang Rascal Flatt's "God Bless the Broken Road".  I love that song because it was the first slow song played at our wedding and our entire dance floor was full so always brings back a nice moment.  After dinner we all went to the lounge and Tara requested "Crimson and Clover" as a surprise for my parents since it is a song played at their wedding.  My Mom was shocked when she realized it was playing and couldn't believe how coincedental it was until she found out Tara had planned it.  We all danced and had the entire song to ourselves.  The woman played a few more songs and we watched Mr. Liam bust some moves.  He provides for such great entertainment and he was even bummed when she wrapped up playing.

We all headed home Sunday late morning but not after some goodbye hugs and maybe a few tears shed......it was such a good time that we all had a case of the "Sunday Blues" after wrapping up such a fun weekend.  Cutting off the Wilderness bracelets was a bit tough for some of us to say the least.

Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad.  Thanks for being such wonderful role models.  We love you very much!

And now some photos.....

  2. Sounds like the perfect way to celebrate your parents' anniversary! I'm going to look into renting a condo like that with a group of friends...so much easier to stay together when most of us have little kids.
